The City of Columbus, Department of Public Service selected Carpenter Marty Transportation to provide survey and engineering design and alternative development/evaluation for the roadway improvement project of Polaris Parkway and Orion Place. The design project widened 0.57 miles of Polaris Parkway by adding a third eastbound lane from IR 71 to Olde Worthington Road and a third westbound lane from Olde Worthington Road to Orion Place. Orion Place was rebuilt to include a three-legged, two lane roundabout at the intersection with Olde Worthington Road. Significant intersection upgrades, including modifications to five existing traffic signals, were part of this project. The project also included the installation of a shared use path along the east side of Old Worthington Road/Orion Place and the south side of Polaris Parkway, retaining wall construction, landscaping, and street lighting. Coordination between many project stakeholders was required, including City of Columbus, Delaware County, City of Westerville, ODOT, and MORPC.
