Crash Analysis

This project provided an analysis of the existing safety conditions and determined potential countermeasures to reduce the crash frequency, relieve congestion, and improve operational issues on Columbia Road from US 22 (Montgomery Road) to Vivian Drive. The intersection of Columbia Road with US 22 is currently ranked #192 on the Ohio Department of Transportation Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Suburban Intersection List. The segment of Columbia Road from US 22 to Myrtle Avenue is ranked #2 on the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) Top Ten Highest Crash Rates in Warren County list.

Recommended countermeasure alternatives included:

  • Adding a northbound right turn lane at US 22 & Columbia Road
  • Adding right turn overlap phases for all approaches at US 22 & Columbia Road
  • Adding access management on Columbia Road south of US 22
  • Realigning Myrtle Avenue and Davis Road
  • Widening Columbia Road to a three-lane section
  • Installing a roundabout at the Myrtle Avenue/Davis Road intersection
