The project involved replacing an existing four span continuous steel beam bridge carrying Pershing Avenue over IR 77 in the City of Cleveland. A structure type study was performed comparing proposed alternatives. The preferred alternative was a single span hybrid steel girder on semi-integral wall type abutments with a span length of 148.5’. Aesthetic enhancements included brick formliner, decorative fencing, and lighting. Pershing Avenue was raised over 1.5’ to provide the required vertical clearance and the interchange ramps were realigned and replaced. One lane, two-way signalized traffic was maintained along Pershing Avenue throughout construction. The project also included right-of-way, sidewalk replacements, striping, signage, and drainage improvements.
