Capacity Analysis

The City of Upper Arlington selected Carpenter Marty Transportation to provide traffic engineering services to analyze the capacity and develop feasible alternatives for the intersection of Tremont Road, Northwest Boulevard, and Fishinger Road. This intersection is one of the City of Upper Arlington’s busiest and most confusing due to the awkward approach angle of Northwest Boulevard, commercial drive access issues, and signal timing. Carpenter Marty Transportation was tasked with collecting existing traffic counts, determining the existing right-of-way, locating existing utility facilities, and developing feasible roundabout alternatives. The analysis of the intersection consisted of AM and PM peak turning movement counts, traffic projections over 20 years, and a capacity analysis of the horizon year traffic to obtain the sufficient level of service. Upon completion of the analysis, the Carpenter Marty Transportation team developed feasible alternatives for the layout of a multi-lane roundabout. The final deliverable to the City was a recommendation letter summarizing all findings.
