Roundabout Design

Columbia Road & Davis Road Roundabout

CM successfully designed a modern roundabout at the intersection of Columbia Road, Davis Road, and Myrtle Avenue to enhance traffic flow and safety. The previous intersection posed significant challenges, with Myrtle Avenue and Davis Road misaligned by approximately 75’  and poor sight distance at Columbia Road, increasing crash risks. The new roundabout design addresses these issues by realigning the intersection and improving vertical alignment, ensuring safer operations and reducing the likelihood of accidents.

The project included comprehensive horizontal and vertical realignment of all three roadways, along with the addition of curbs, gutters, and concrete splitter islands. Designed in accordance with ODOT and AASHTO standards, the roundabout geometry optimizes vehicle paths to enhance safety and efficiency.

Key infrastructure improvements included installation of a new closed storm sewer system and replacement of the existing box culvert with a 7’  by 6’ concrete box culvert. A post-construction BMP system was also integrated as part of the stormwater management improvements. The project also included replacement of the existing 6” water main with an 8” main along Columbia Road, Davis Road, and Myrtle Avenue, in coordination with Warren County Water and Sewer.

By implementing these enhancements, CM delivered a safer, more efficient intersection that improves traffic operations while addressing long-standing safety concerns.
