Communication Matters

Communication matters and remains one of Carpenter Marty Transportation’s core values during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many companies that are fortunate to continue working, Carpenter Marty Transportation is carrying on as an essential business, but not quite as (our) usual. To carry on business during this time and follow social distancing, our employees are working from home. We have absolute confidence in our remote working capabilities and video conferencing because these techniques have always been in place at our offices. Our staff will continue to maintain responsiveness, quality control procedures, and project schedules as if we were under normal operations.

Great communication has always been one of Carpenter Marty Transportation’s keys to success. Our team holds weekly meetings within each department and specific project teams meet as needed to discuss schedule, budge, and potential challenges within their project. Because of these practices, the change in our work environment has been fairly easy. Our teams continue to meet weekly; now held via video calls. Our open office environment allowed for easy, continual communication between management and team members, which is continuing through use of daily check-in calls and instant messaging throughout the day.

For many companies, this switch to working remotely has caused headaches and a lot of troubleshooting. Fortunately, we had a great foundation of communication and support prior to “Stay at Home” orders being put in place. Our company has been using TeamViewer and Microsoft Teams applications for remote access, video conferencing, group messaging, and file sharing for several years. Our employees are experienced with the software applications, and we haven’t skipped a beat in production during this time. We are operating at full capacity, albeit from 25+ offices rather than three. Additionally, all employees may be reached by phone via their direct office lines, per usual.

By use of video conferencing and daily manager check-ins, our teams are developing deeper relationships. In striving to maintain our office culture and drive engagement during the physical separations, we have started challenging our teams to show their creativity via a pre-established theme for their weekly video conferences. Themes include CM apparel, crazy hats, favorite mug, and a beach theme to name a few. Follow our social media pages to see pictures and comment on your favorites!
