Hi-Carpenter Memorial Bridge Inspection

The Hi-Carpenter Memorial Bridge is a steel through truss that runs north and south carrying WV Route 807 over the Ohio River and Norfolk Southern Railroad. The bridge consists of nine spans for a total length of 2,584’. Spans 1, 2, and 6 through 9 consist of welded steel beams. Spans 3 through 5 are the main truss spans. CM is performing special hands-on and physical condition inspection of the structure that is operated and maintained by the West Virginia Division of Highways.

In addition to the special inspection, CM will perform non-destructive testing on the T1 steel in accordance with federal regulations. CM uses conventional access techniques to gain access to all elements of the structure. The equipment used includes an under-bridge inspection unit, and a 135’ aerial lift. Single lane road closures are needed to access the underside of the structure.
