Intern Highlight Max Trethewey

I really enjoyed my short time working at Carpenter Marty Transportation. From the people to the work, the experience was awesome. I really enjoyed my coworkers and the family atmosphere they brought to work everyday. Carpenter Marty Transportation was extremely flexible with my schedule, which made life so much easier. I am very glad I spent the summer working here and would recommend it to any upcoming transportation engineer.

One of my favorite things I did this summer was being on the job site for field reviews while working on the US 19 Signing project. For this project, I was responsible for assisting with drawing road lines, right-of-way, centerline, and sign inventories. I travel this road quite often and it’s so cool to know exactly what I am spending my time working on. I relished my time working on these items because it allowed me to actively contribute and witness the real-life accomplishments unfold before my eyes.

My coworkers were amazing. We got to do so many team-building activities during our lunch breaks and after hours. One of my favorite activities that we did was putt putt around Charleston during FestivALL. Even though I lost, I had a blast hanging out and learning more about my coworkers. It was so easy to talk to them about work and life. If I ever had any sort of questions, it was always met with a great response.

I learned so many things outside of engineering. Learning how to work on a team and being a part of a company environment was all very new to me. It was very easy for me to navigate my way through the engineering software and I received a lot of knowledge within the workplace.

I worked on so many things during my time and it really taught me a lot about problem solving and how consulting firms operate. These are some extremely important lessons that I will carry on as I finish my degree and school. I really want to thank everyone at Carpenter Marty Transportation for making my summer experience awesome.
